Congratulations Boys Basketball

by Coy Holcombe.

The boys basketball team had a great effort last night and won their game against Kemp. The win puts our Bulldogs at 3-3 in district play. I want to thank all the fans for showing up for the games last night. It was one of the largest crowds that we have had all year. Both the boys and girls teams will be traveling to Wills Point this Friday. The games will start at 4:30.

Work is progressing on the new gym. With the weather cooperating, crews have been able to make good progress on the roof. While not visible from the outside, work has continued on the inside. Plumbing work has started at the new transportation facility. Soon, we will be preparing to pour the foundation for this building.

The soccer teams open district play on Friday. Both the boys and girls team will be playing at Lindale. The games will start at 5:30.

                Ashley Lasiter- 14th
                Corey Smitherman- 12th
                Chad Tindel- 10th
                Mallory Mobly- 6th
                Brady Tindel- 5th

2009-2010 School Calendar

by Coy Holcombe.

First, a reminder that our basketball teams will be in district action tonight against Kemp. The games will be played here and will start at 4:30.

At the January board meeting, the EISD Board of Trustees officially adopted the school calendar for the 2009-2010 school year. Overall, the calendar is very similar to this year’s calendar. The major difference is that in next year’s calendar the district has gone back to ending the first semester before the Christmas holidays. The current calendar had the first semester ending about two weeks after we returned from the holidays.

With the semester ending prior to Christmas, the first semester will be somewhat shorter than the second. The first semester will have 80 days and the second semester will have 100 days. Since there are many more activities in the second semester, the extra days will help in this regard.

A quick overview of the calendar:

First day of school – August 24
Labor Day Holiday – September 7
Holiday – October 7
Early Release – November 24
Thanksgiving Holidays – November 25 – 27
Early Release – December 17 & 18
Christmas Holidays – December 21 – January 1
Staff Workday – January 4
Staff Development Day – January 18
Spring Break – March 15 – 19
Early Release – April 1
Good Friday Holiday/Bad Weather Day – April 2
Memorial Day Holiday – May 24
Early Release – June 2 & 3
Bad Weather Day – June 4
I want to thank all the people that worked putting this calendar together. If you have questions or comments about this calendar, please feel free to email me at

National Counselor Week

by Coy Holcombe.

The week of February 2 – 6 has been designated as National Counselor Week. I would like to take this time to recognize our counselors and thank them for their hard work and dedication: Sandy Sowers, Primary; Brett Powers, Intermediate; Debbie Dominguez, Middle School; Phyllis Bice and Gwen Orr, High School. Not only do these professionals provide guidance counseling for our students, but they are also the testing coordinators at each campus, they provide lessons to students in a wide-range of topics, and they provide academic counseling to parents and students.

This week, our basketball teams host Kemp on Tuesday and travel to Wills Point on Friday. Games begin at 4:30 both days.

Our Middle School basketball teams will be competing against Mineola on Thursday.
