With the onset of spring, EISD will be conducting more severe weather drills. Usually these drills are done campus by campus; however, in some instances we will conduct a district wide weather drill for all campuses at the same time. If you happen to be at a campus when a severe weather drill is conducted, please do not be surprised if you are asked to participate in the drill.
Yesterday, I gave the preliminary results of the 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade TAKS scores. The numbers that I gave were the percent of students that passed the test. Today, I want to mention the percent of students that achieved "Commended Performance." Commended Performance is a designation that is awarded to students that only miss a few problems on the whole test (usually less than four).
3rd Grade Reading – 46% Commended Performance
5th Grade Reading – 24% Commended Performance
8th Grade Reading – 49% Commended Performance
As you can see, in the 3rd and 8th grades almost 1 out of every 2 students not only passed the reading portion of the TAKS test, but passed at the highest recognized level.
