It is with great sadness that I relay to you the passing of Elbert Kirk. Mr. Kirk passed away yesterday at around 7:30 PM. Mr. Kirk devoted 46 years of his life to the students of EISD. During those 46 years, he touched many lives. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Kirk was born on February 2, 1940. He graduated from Cayuga High School in 1958. He attended Kilgore College for 2 years and received his bachelor degree from East Texas State College in 1963. He also received his masters degree from East Texas in 1976 and his mid-management certification from East Texas in 1985.
Mr. Kirk was an outstanding basketball player. Not only did he star at Cayuga, he went on to play for Kilgore and East Texas State. This last summer, Mr. Kirk received special recognition at the Texas High School Coaches All-Star Basketball Game in San Antonio. This recognition came from him being a member of the first All-Star Basketball team in the state.
Recently, the EISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the new competition gym after Mr. Kirk. Mr. Kirk was in attendance at the first event held in this new gym, the 2009 graduation ceremony, and was recognized by Stan Sowers.
There is no way to sum up in a few words 46 years of loyalty and dedication to students and to the district. Mr. Kirk was the ultimate professional who always kept the best interest of the students first. His leadership, sense of humor, and stories will be missed by all.
Currently, there is no information about arrangements. As soon as we find out this information, it will be posted.
