The transportation facility is now about 65% complete. As everyone can see, the main building is complete. The work inside is progressing. Almost all of the electric work and rough-in plumbing is complete. All of the framing is completed on the inside. Right now, sheet rock and plywood are being installed on the inside.
Our goal is to have the facility completed in January. As soon as it is completed, our transportation department will move in. We will then relocate our maintenance department to the old transportation facility. This will free up space for classrooms to be constructed in the old maintenance building (some of this work has already started). These classrooms will be available for the 2010-2011 school year. One of the major projects will be converting the old maintenance shop into an area for our art classes. This renovation will include the addition of a kiln for our Middle School art department.
Our maintenance department is completing the work (except for the electrical work) at the new transportation facility. They will also be doing the renovations at the old transportation facility and the classroom work at the old maintenance building. Having maintenance people skilled in construction is literally saving the district thousands of dollars in labor costs. I want to thank Jack Wallace and all the maintenance personnel for all the work they have done and will do at these facilities.
