Various Things

by Coy Holcombe.

The TAKS testing yesterday went well. While retests will continue today in math at the EXIT level, no other new tests are scheduled.

Right now there is a stomach bug making its rounds through the district and surrounding areas. Several students have gone home with this illness. If you have any questions about this, please contact Nurse Pam Martin at the Primary School.

The JV and varsity baseball teams will be in tournaments over the next few days. The JV will be in Athens and the varsity will be going to Grand Prairie.

Work on the mural in the E.L, Kirk Gymnasium is progressing. The artists are scheduled to be done today. I will try to get a picture for tomorrow’s post.

TAKS Testing

by Coy Holcombe.

Today is the official start of TAKS testing across the state. There were retests taken on Monday, but this marks the first day of this school year for current year testing. Today, 4th and 7th grade will be taking their writing tests. Ninth graders will be taking their reading tests and 10th graders & 11th graders will be taking their English/Language Arts test. Students that have not yet passed their EXIT level ELA test will have an opportunity to retest today.I know that our students, staff, and parents have been working hard in preparation for these tests. I wish everyone good luck.

The work on the mural is progressing. The artists are planning on being done with the painting tomorrow.

Kelsey Maltos Qualifies for State in Powerlifting

by Coy Holcombe.

Below is a summary, submitted by powerlifting coach Jeff Brown, of Kelsey Maltos’ success at the Regional Powerlifting Meet. Congratulations to Kelsey for all her hard work and dedication.

EHS Senior Kelsey Maltos qualified for and competed at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s Regional Meet held last Saturday at Forney High School. Kelsey placed 2nd in her weight class. In finishing as the silver medalist, Kelsey set a new regional record in the Squat by lifting a personal best of 425 lbs. Kelsey also had a grand total of 900 lbs for the three lifts, which is also a personal best for her. Most importantly, the second -place finish automatically qualifies her to compete at the state meet, while her total of 900 lbs. was 105 lbs. over the minimum total needed to qualify independent of her place finish. Kelsey will represent Eustace ISD at the state powerlifting meet to be held on March 19-20 in Corpus Christi. Please congratulate her on a terrific season, and wish her well as she continues to train for the final meet of the year.

Also, a special thanks to Coach Brown for sharing this information and for his work with Kelsey.
