Last Day of 09-10 School Year

by Coy Holcombe.

It just does not seem possible that we are at the last day of the 2009-2010 school year. It just seems like yesterday that I was writing a "Welcome Back" entry for my blog. I want to thank everyone for a great year in 09-10.

EISD has enjoyed many successes this year. We continue to see academic success with our students as evident by our TAKS scores, our SAT/ACT scores, our ITBS scores at the Primary,  the way our art program dominated against other area art programs, and even more so by the amount of scholarships that our seniors received.

We continue to enjoy success in extracurricular activities. Our athletic teams made the playoffs in volleyball, football, and baseball. Our cross country teams qualified for regional, and our boys track team won the district championship. Our band always competes for a First Division anytime that they perform; and, our FFA organization and cheerleaders are quite simply the best in the area.

None of this could be accomplished without everyone working together. It takes staff members, parents, grandparents, other relatives and friends, and community members all working together to have this type of success. It also takes a school board that strives to make sure that our students have what they need in order to be successful.

While it is certainly enjoyable to reflect back on the 09-10 school year, it is also exciting to think what the 2010-2011 school year will be like. I can’t wait to see!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Summer Hours & Summer Nutrition Program

by Coy Holcombe.

Next week, EISD will start on its summer hours schedule. Offices and summer school will work on a Monday-Thursday schedule. The offices will open at 7:30 and will close at 5:00 PM. All offices will be closed on Fridays.

We have utilized this schedule the past several summers in an effort to cut down on the amount of electricity used in the summer. The district will remain on this schedule until the second week in August. Of course, football, band, cross country, and volleyball will start the first of August. Once practice officially begins for these activities, they will not be under the four day week.

Also, EISD will be providing a summer nutrition program during the month of June. This summer nutrition program is strongly encouraged by the state and the state will be providing the funding for the program. The program will provide breakfast and lunch for youths 18 years and younger at no cost. Breakfast will start at 7:30 and go through 8:30. Lunch will start at 11:30 and go through 12:30. There are no forms to fill out. Everyone 18 years and younger eats free. The summer nutrition program starts June 7 and goes through June 30. As with our regular summer hours, it will run Monday – Thursday during this time. If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Rosemary Abbott at 425-5150.

Congratulations Seniors and This Week

by Coy Holcombe.

Congratulations to the 2010 seniors! Graduation went great on Saturday. We had a full house at the E. L. Kirk Gymnasium. Lots of family, friends, and staff members came out to honor the 2010 graduates. I want to say a special thank you to the maintenance department for getting the gym ready for graduation. It is a huge undertaking and our maintenance staff did a great job as always.

The seniors have earned over $1.2 million in scholarships! That alone is a huge accomplishment!! We wish all of the seniors success in their future endeavors.
