Happy Thanksgiving

by Coy Holcombe.

Last year at this time, I posted an entry about the original Thanksgiving proclamation. I believe that the message in that proclamation is important enough to repeat:

While we have all heard about the first Thanksgiving involving the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, we may not be familiar with the original proclamation for a day of Thanksgiving written by George Washington. This proclamation was written over 150 years after the first recognized Thanksgiving in 1621. The proclamation written by George Washington served to solidify the date and reason for observing Thanksgiving. Below this entry is a copy of the original proclamation. It is difficult to read at best; so, I have also attached a word for word transcript of Washington's proclamation.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.

Thanks for an Exciting Season

by Coy Holcombe.

The Eustace Bulldogs' football season came to an end last night. The Bulldogs fell to the Pottsboro Cardinals 37-13 in the bi-district championship game. This marks the third consecutive year that the Bulldogs have advanced to the playoffs.

I want to thank Doug Wendel and all of the other coaches for their hard work and dedication. I also want to thank all the parents, friends and other fans that have followed and supported the Bulldogs this year. Most of all, I want to thank all the players for putting in long hours of practice (since August 2) and the way they represented EISD. Throughout the year, the Bulldogs played with pride and integrity.

Last night also marked the end of the marching band season. I want to thank directors Todd Felty and Jim Taylor for a great marching season. A special thank you goes to the young men and young ladies in the marching band. They have been practicing since August 2, also.

Finally, I want to say thanks to Sandy Sowers and the EHS cheerleaders for all the hard work support given to the fall sports. While the football games allowed the cheerleaders to really showcase their talents, they were also involved with volleyball and cross country.

A reminder that we will be having a send off parade for the boys cross country team today at 9:00. The Bulldogs will compete in the state cross country meet in Round Rock tomorrow. The Bulldogs will run at 1:40.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
