Poets.org

When we started this school year with CSCOPE for the first time, one of the “scary” new changes was that the curriculum was opened the year with a unit on POETRY!!

Poetry, a subject that often immediately strikes fear or dread into the hearts of many, can be fun, and Poets.org is one website to get started with when planning your poetry unit. Poets.org has a page specifically for educators containing links for curriculum units and lesson plans, tips for teaching poetry, and a teacher resource area.

Needing to research a poem or poet? There is an advanced search that will allow you to search using keywords, forms or themes. Poets.org also has a “Poetry map” where you can find featured poets, poems and programs in a specific state. This site also has audio and video recordings of poets reading their own works, proving to students that poetry is still a “living” part of our language today.

UIL Marching Contest

Yesterday, the Mighty Bulldog Marching Band competed at the Region 3 Marching Contest in Mesquite. The Bulldog Band performed at 5:00. The band earned a Division II rating from the judges. I want to congratulate all the band members and the directors, Todd Felty and Jim Taylor. The band has been working since the first of August on their show. They have spent many hours in preparation for the marching contest. I also want to thank all the parents and other supporters for all the help they have provided to the band during this marching season. You will have a chance to see the halftime show tomorrow during the varsity football game. A video of the marching contest performance has been uploaded to our YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/EustaceISD .

All is Well at EHS

If I have to inform you of just how well things are going at EHS you must have been out of the country. Football, volleyball, and cross country have been the talk of the town. Football with a 7 & 0 record is bidding for the District Championship for the 1st time in over a decade. Volleyball has only 1 loss in district and is looking to extend their streak of post season play. Cross Country boys have continued their dominance while the girls have put together their best team in years.

It’s been a great Fall for EHS and we’re looking to ride this wave throughout the entire year. Students are taking care of business in the classroom as well with the fewest failures we have seen in the first six weeks and a solid attendance rate.
