I have been in Austin attending an outstanding conference: Leadership in the Digital Learning Age. While in Austin, I received news that Blake Ward has been selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star football game: Coach Brian Herman supplied the following information:

The Bulldog varsity baseball team will be playing Red Oak Life today at 6:00 PM. The game will be played in DeSoto. Field information: Grimes Park 500 East Wintergreen Rd DeSoto, TX.

The Bulldog softball team will be traveling to Blooming Grove today, while qualifiers for the Texas Relays will be traveling to Austin.

Sick Science offers videos demonstrating fun, hands-on experiments. There are 88 videos which last anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes. Sick Science would be an engaging way to introduce new scientific concepts or demonstrate and reinforce concept that have already been taught.

Sick Science is a You Tube channel created by Steve Spangler Science. Steve Spangler offers the most creative ways to make learning fun and to turn ordinary science experiments into unforgettable learning experiences. Sick Science is a science resource worth checking out.

UIL Literary Regional Qualifiers

Information from Viki GoDair, UIL Coordinatior at the High School:

Fourteen students participated in the UIL District Academic Contests in Buffalo: Chris Almand, Connie Benefield, Jerrod Branscum, David Calvert, Whitney Frosch, Nic Hairl, Grace Holcombe, Cody Marple, Samantha Randall, Noel Rosado, Josh Rosado, Elizabeth Salinas, Troy Saunders, and Kaitlyn White. Writing events were held on Tuesday, March 20th, with all other events following on Saturday, March 24th. Please congratulate each student for his/her hard work and dedication. The following students earned medals and/or advanced to Regional competition: Whitney Frosch, 1st place Ready Writing, advances; Nic Hairl, 2nd place Headline Writing, advances, 5th place Math; Grace Holcombe, 3rd place Ready Writing, advances; and Cody Marple, 5th place Literary Criticism.

Congratulations to all the students that participated. A special congratulations to the three students that qualifed for regional. Also, a special thank you to the High School staff for their work in preparing these students.

The new STAAR tests are rolled out this week. Starting today, various grade levels will be working throughout the week on the new tests.

Tuesday – STAAR English I & III Reading; STAAR Reading 5th & 8th grades; STAAR Writing  4th & 7th Grades – Day 1; Kindergarten Family Reading Night 5:00 – 6:00; Varsity baseball v. Palmer 4:30

Wednesday – STAAR English II Writing; STAAR Writing 4th & 7th grades – Day 2

Thursday – STAAR English II Reading; HS Track at Frankston

Friday – Varsity baseball at Red Oak Life – 6:00; SB at Blooming Grove
