Today marks the start of test season throughout the state. All of the 10th and 11th graders will be taking the English/Language Arts part of the TAKS test today. Although the new STAAR tests will be taken by many students this year, the students classified as 10th and 11th graders will still be under the TAKS testing system. All other grades will be taking the STAAR test.
The STAAR testing starts at the end of this month (March 26 – March 29). There will also be STAAR testing and TAKS testing the week of April 23 – April 27. The STAAR end of course tests will be given in May (with the exception of the end of course English Tests which will be at the end of March).
As we have discussed previously, Commissioner of Education, Robert Scott, has sent a letter to all districts stating that this year’s end of course tests are not required to count as 15% of a student’s final grade. The EISD Board of Trustees will consider a resolution at their regular meeting on Thursday to suspend this portion of the testing requirement for this year.
