On Saturday, the Eustace boys and girls cross country teams competed in the state cross country meet at Round Rock. Both teams qualified for the state meet by placing first at the regional meet a week earlier. Prior to that, both teams placed first at the district meet.

The state meet included 12 teams and the top four runners from 4 regions. The boys team had an outstanding day and placed 3rd in the state in Conference 2A. The boys had an overall score of 135 points and finished behind Luling and Boys Ranch. The boys team consisted of 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 3 freshmen. They were lead by junior Mark Zimmerer who placed 13th and ran a 16:47. This is the first state championship that our cross country teams have won and may possibly be the first state championship by any team from Eustace. Both teams received recognition at the awards ceremony. Video of the races and the girls awards ceremony will be posted later today on the Eustace ISD webpage.

The work and dedication that every runner put in made these accomplishments possible. Cross country is not just a sport you start in August. Our runners put in many miles on their own throughout the year in order to stay in shape. There are many great cross country teams in Conference 2A. The competition is always fierce at the state meet. For our boys to finish 3rd in the state and our girls to win state is an extraordinary accomplishment! Congratulations to both of these teams and their coaches, Josh Sypert and Kenneth Henderson, on their outstanding season!!

On Friday, our football team secured a playoff spot for the sixth consecutive year by posting a 26-22 win over Lone Oak. The Bulldogs came from behind and scored in the final minute to take the lead. The defense secured the victory by forcing Lone Oak to turn the ball over on downs. The Bulldogs will play Daingerfield in the bi-district game. The game will be played this Saturday in Van. Kickoff is set for 1:30.

The volleyball team ended their season on Saturday against Chisum falling 3-1 in the Area Championship. The ladies had a great season, capturing the district championship and the bi-district championship. Congratulations to the players and coaches on a great volleyball season!
