First Day and Update on Food Service and TEA Distinction

We have got the first day underway. I appreciate everyone’s patience this first day. Traffic is always an issue the first few days. We had a few moments when it was really congested, but it cleared up quickly. According to numbers submitted around 10:30, our first day enrollment is 1,552. This enrollment is greater than any point during the 2014-2015 school year.

I want to let everyone know about the new program that EISD will be participating in this year. At the regular August Board Meeting, our School Board approved participation in the Community Eligibility Provision. For the 2015-2016 school year, all students in grades Pre-K to 8th grade will have breakfast and lunch provided at no cost. For these students there is no paperwork to fill out. Everyone is automatically eligible. For our High School students, we will continue to provide multiple meal choices as we did in the 2nd semester last year at regular prices. Students in grades 9-12 will still be able to qualify for free or reduced priced meals. All students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to turn in their paperwork for the free or reduced price meals. If you need further information about the free or reduced price meal program, please contact Teri Clark at (903) 425 – 5128.

Recently, EISD was informed by the Texas Education Agency that it was one of only 24 districts in the state that earned the College Readiness Distinction. There are over 1,200 public and charter school districts in the state. That means that there were less than 2% of the districts in the state to earn this Distinction. EISD was one of those districts! This is great tribute to our students, staff, and parents at EISD.

I look forward to 2015-2016 being the best year yet for EISD. It is truly a great time to be a Bulldog!
