Welcome Back and This Week

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! We have 15 school days until the end of the first semester and the start of Christmas break. In between now and then, we have lots of events and activities planned.

First, congratulations to the varsity football team on a successful season. The Bulldogs finished 3rd in district play, won the  bi-district championship, and were area finalists. Thanks to the players and coaches for all the hard work and dedication put  in this year. Also, a special thank you to the fans for their support throughout the season.

The marching band season is now officially over. I want to congratulate the band on another great marching season. Thank you to the students and directors for all their hard work and dedication in making this another successful marching season.

Also, a special thank you to our cheerleaders and cheer coaches for all the work they put in during the fall sports. The cheerleaders have supported our students in  volleyball, cross country, and football. The cheerleaders will now be preparing for their state competition in January.

Football, Bond Election, and This Week

Congratulations to the Bulldog football team on their 31-26 win over Dallas Madison! The win moves the Bulldogs to 3-2 in district play and puts them as the 3rd seed team from District 6-3A.

The Bulldogs will face Bonham in the bi-district championship game this Thursday. The game will be played at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite. Kickoff is set for 7:00. Tickets are on sale at the High School office. Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. All tickets will be $8.00 at the gate. Texas High School Coaches Association passes, senior passes, and district passes will be honored.

In the bond election, there were 1,387 votes for and 1,224 votes against. There are 18 provisional ballots left to count. In the May bond election, there were a total of 529 votes cast. In the November election, there were 2,611 total votes (not including the provisional ballots). The Board of Trustees and I would like to thank the voters for supporting this bond proposal. It is a great step forward for both the students and the entire EISD community. You have my commitment, and the commitment of the Board of Trustees, to continue being good stewards of your money as we move forward with the construction projects.

Cross Country and This Week

Both the boys and girls cross country teams had a successful trip to the state cross country meet in Round Rock. On the girls side, Kayla Fruen finished second overall and brought home the silver medal! By the way, Kayla is just a 9th grader! The girls team finished 6th overall. The runners on the girls team (in the order of finish) included: Kayla Fruen, Yasmine Washington, Madisen Kulsa, Brooke McAtee, Krislynn Westbrook, Brooklyn Patterson, and Reece Thorne.

On the boys side, Dalton Page finished 4th overall and the boys team won the Conference 3A State Championship! The boys had a total score of 65. The second place team scored a distant 104 points! The order of finish for the boys team was Dalton Page, Nicholas Westbrook, Jaden Lopez, Colby Carpenter, Collin Sutton, John Saine, and Nathaniel Holland.  The boys have finished in the top 3 at state several times; however, this is their first state championship.

Congratulations to all the runners on their great showing at the state meet. A special thank you to all the parents, family, and friends that made the trip to Round Rock to support our runners. A special thank you to our cross country coaches Josh Sypert and Kenneth Henderson. We are Bulldog Proud of all of you!!  A video of the start, finish, and awards ceremonies for both the boys and girls is available at the district’s YouTube page:

Last Friday was Senior Night for football players, band members, student trainers, and cheerleaders (it was also supposed to be Senior Night for cross country, but our runners were in Round Rock). If you missed the presentations Friday, here is a video of the ceremony:

Also, last Friday night was our American Flag Night. All the football players carried an American flag as they took the field before the game. Als0, we had a large American flag held on the field by veterans, active duty personnel, and local citizens for the National Anthem. Here is that video:

A quick shout out to EHS graduate Taylor Peebles. Taylor was recently inaugurated into UT Tyler’s National Nursing Honor Society. Taylor graduated from EHS in 2015.
