This Week

Our Bass Team came up just a few pounds short of qualifying for the state tournament in their first year to compete. The team is already looking forward to next year. A special thank you goes to our bass team coach, Kenneth Carpenter. Another special thank you goes to all the boat captains for their time, effort, and dedication to the students.

The Primary will be doing Guided Reading assessments throughout this week for kindergarten students.

I will have the results of the Area Track Meet and the list of Regional Qualifiers later today. A separate post with that information will be done.

This Week

Congratulations to all 4 High School track teams on winning district championships last week! The JV girls, JV boys, and varsity girls all scored at least 200 points in their divisions. The varsity boys won all three relays on their way to winning their division. The Area Track meet will be this Thursday in Sunnyvale.

Congratulations to the varsity baseball team on posting two wins last week against Quitman! The wins put the Bulldogs at 6-0 in district play. The Bulldogs play Edgewood this week.

Congratulations also go out to Mady Bragg on placing 1st in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the Regional UIL Academics Meet on Saturday! Mady will now be traveling to Austin to compete at the State UIL Academics Meet.

EHS will be hosting two 8th grade parent meetings this week. One will be Tuesday evening and the other will be Wednesday morning. We will serve a light meal starting at 5:30 in the High School cafeteria. The meeting will follow at 6:00. On Wednesday, we will serve a light breakfast at 8:30. The meeting will start at 8:45. These meetings will give parents of 8th grade students a chance to learn about the different types of endorsements that are available to High School students. Parents will also learn about dual-credit courses, certification courses, and when students get to participate in these types of courses.

Also, a reminder that this Friday is a school holiday. Classes will resume Monday, April 23 at regular times.

Congratulations to the varsity softball team on a district win over Kemp on Friday!

Congratulations to the varsity baseball team on posting two wins over Alba-Golden on Thursday. Those two wins put the baseball team at 4-0 in district play!!

Also, last Monday, the District Middle School Track Meet was held in Eustace. Both the 8th grade girls and 8th grade boys were overall district champs! The 7th grade girls placed 2nd and the 7th grade boys placed 4th. Congratulations to all the participants on a great performance!

Today is the start of the 6th 6 weeks. There are 33 days left in the 2017-2018 school year. This is also the week that many of the STAAR tests are given.

Scholarships

May 1, 2018-The Travis Stone Cates Memorial Scholarship is now ready for application. Graduating seniors who plan to pursue a career in education and coaching are eligible to apply. Applications are available in the counselor’s office.

 

May 1, 2018– The Eustace Athletic Booster Club Scholarship is now ready for application. Parents of graduating seniors must be an active member of the club, and must have worked a certain number of events to be eligible to apply. The application , along with the eligibility criteria is available in the counselor’s office.

 May 4, 2018– The Eustace Board of Trustees will be awarding two $800 scholarships to two graduating seniors in 2018. The Scholarship application requires one letter of recommendation from an educator and will also require an interview before the Board. The interview will be conducted on May 21 prior to the regular board meeting. Applications are   available in the counselor’s office.

June 15, 2018-GOBanking Rates is a personal finance resource that is offering a $2,500 to graduating seniors who will start college in the Fall of 2018. Applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of application, and the judging criteria will be based on insight and consideration of the response question, and the quality of the essay submitted. TVCC Dual credit registration

TVCC Dual credit registration will begin on Monday, April 2, 2018, All students, grades 9-11, who have taken the TSI and are eligible to take dual credit classes for the summer and/or Fall 2018, will need to see me to get concurrent forms. Please remember that if a student has never taken a college class, there are additional things that have to be completed before a student can actually register. Students should not wait until the very last minute to take care of this. Please note these deadlines:

Summer 1&2 registration- May 17. 2018

Fall registration- June 7, 2018

 

TVCC Catapult Competition; Scholarships; Verto Education

April 23, 2018– The TVCC Science Club is hosting its 5th  annual Earth Day Festival and Egg Catapult Scholarship Competition on Monday, April 23rd  from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the Athens Campus.  The competition is open to any student that is currently enrolled at TVCC and a $1000.00 scholarship is awarded for the individual/ individuals that are awarded 1st place.  There will also be scholarships awarded for the 2nd and 3rd place finishers.  The competition consists of a cost analysis, design, and performance component.  The top 5 groups will also produce a presentation for the final determination. Those interested need to contact Jan Jennings at jjennings@tvcc.edu or call  903-675-6382 to receive the registration documents, rules, permission forms and regulations.

 

The 55th Annual Texas Farm Bureau Youth Leadership Conference is scheduled for June 11-15, 2018 on the campus of Tarleton State University in Stephenville Texas. All expenses are paid, with the exception of spending money. Eligible applicants must be a Junior or Senior when the 2018-2019 school year begins. April 16, 2018– The American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship is now open to graduating seniors for application. Applications are available in the counselor’s office.

 

May 25, 2018– The Ozarka Natural Spring Water $10,000 “Every Drop Counts”  Earth Science Scholarship is ready for application. Graduating seniors who plan to pursue a degree in the Earth/Environmental Sciences at an accredited four-year college or university and have a t least a cumulative 3.0 GPA are eligible to apply. Examples of Earth/Environmental Sciences are: Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Environmental Law,  Environmental Education, Forestry, Oceanography, Ecology. Applications are available in the counselor’s office.

 

Verto Education provides the opportunity for eligible students to spend their first semester of college studying abroad while earning college credit. There is also an opportunity to win a $5,000 scholarship for  graduating seniors who have demonstrated leadership qualities and an interest in global economic, health, education or humanitarian issues.
