EHS Going Robotic

by Stan Sowers.

Computers, math, and science all in one!  That’s what the latest NXT robotics technology programs incorporate as students build, problem solve, and program robots.  Plans are being made at this time to go forward in purchasing 8 sets of the NXT Robotics Base Units for our Infinity Project class that we already offer students.

Instructor of the class Mr. David Beverly along with Mr. Gene Myers, our Technology Integration Specialist, just returned from a workshop where they learned how this technology can be used as an instructional tool in developing critical thinking skills and scientific problem solving to make decisions.  By the way, rumor has it from Region VII that they were top of their class.  Two smart cookies.

We’re all excited about the opportunities this will present for our students and the students are excited as well.  I appreciate as the principal of EHS and as a dad of students in this school system, the vision and motivation our faculty and administration has for advancements in our curriculum such as this.  Give us a little time and we’ll invite everyone to come see them in action.

Together in education.

08 – 09 Taking Shape

by Stan Sowers.

With one six weeks behind us now it looks as though we are off to one of our best years yet.  With the football, volleyball, and cross country teams being so competitive it has been an enjoyable season thus far.  The band has been working hard in sharpening their skills and routine and look to have everything clicking for UIL competition.

In other areas, the 1st six weeks failure rate was the best it’s been since I can remember.  The freshmen seem to have adapted better than usual.  The attendance rate for all grade levels was above 96%.  Thank you students and parents!  It’s been very active with clubs and organizations doing all sorts of activities and charities.  More are being planned as I speak.  I’m very proud of the students involved in these programs and their sponsors.

Be involved or just keep in touch as we continue to shape this awesome 08-09 school year.

Flex Days Successful

by Stan Sowers.

Eustace High School had our first two Flex Days this past Thursday and Friday.  Attendance was great as we served approximately half the student body with TAKS related material.  The day was split into 5 periods in which we focused on the four core subjects, as well as, test taking strategies, and vocabulary.  We appreciate the parents in supporting these all-important days and we especially appreciate the students for their attention and positive attitude.

Bulldog Proud

"How 'bout those Bulldogs"

by Stan Sowers.

What a great week of festivities leading up to the homecoming game against Quitman.  I’d like to thank everyone involved.  We could not have pulled it off without the help of the booster club, cheerleaders, homecoming committee,  maintenance department, band, and even the Ag program.

And what a homecoming it was.  In front of a packed house, the Eustace Bulldogs regained the lead with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game and then let their defense secure the victory with a fumble recovery and an interception.  This brings their record for the season to 2 and 2.

I couldn’t be more proud of the students, the staff, and the volunteers that made this such a successful week.  My hope is that all bulldogs, young and old, felt as proud to be a part of Eustace ISD.

"Bad to the Bone"

by Stan Sowers.

Let’s hear it for our own Shawn Baldwin!  He was selected as the "Built Ford Tough 3A Player of the Week" for the entire State of Texas.  Rushed for 240 plus yards with a heavy heart after his mothers funeral that afternoon.  What an inspiration to all of us.

How about that FFA team?  They’re wasting no time in representing us well in competition.  The Plant Identification Team for the first time won 1st place in their competition against 12 other teams in their district.  With approximately 100 students competing they took 1st, 5th, and 8th place.  The students involved were:

1st place team- Al Hamm, Brodie Baker, Logan Grimes, Jessica Hill

5th place team- Brady Tindel, Rickey Haley, Caleb Wonhas, Ty Browning

8th place team- Ben Huddleston, Steven Sutton, Tim Gassman, Michael Umbling

EHS Bulldogs are, "Bad to the Bone"
