The 2009-2010 school year officially starts today. I know for some the summer may have dragged by; as for me, it seems like it was barely here at all.
This is going to be a great year. Staff members having been working to prepare for the students for some time now. Students will have new teachers, new classes, or maybe even a new campus to attend this year. It will take a few days for everyone and everything to get into a routine. During this time, we need everyone’s help and suggestions on how to make things work better. By all of us working together, parents, guardians, relatives, friends, and staff members, we can ensure that our children receive a world-class education.
One of the biggest changes for this year is the immunization requirements for some students. This is especially true for 7th graders. Right now, our instructions from the Texas Department of Health are that students without the required shots will not be permitted to attend classes. This is not an EISD rule, but a mandate from the state. There was some discussion yesterday about the state giving a two-week grace period for students to receive the required shots. At the time of this writing, we have not received any official notification from the state concerning this grace period. If we receive any further information from the state on this requirement, we will be passing it on to parents/guardians.
